Trading the London open from Central Europe: timezone tips

Post by FXS London Scalper »

For traders in Prague, Vienna, Warsaw or Berlin, the London open is 09:00 local time, and US data lands at 14:30. Convenient hours on paper. In practice, a few timezone details trip people up.

Things worth setting up properly:

- Platform and charts. Broker server time is often GMT+2/+3, which is close to, but not the same as, Central European Time for most of the year. During the weeks when the US and Europe change clocks on different dates, it's an hour off. Label sessions on the chart in London time to avoid confusion.
- Calendar. Set it to your local time zone, but recheck every release time in the weeks when Europe and the US have changed clocks but not on the same Sunday.
- Frankfurt vs London. German data at 08:00 CET comes an hour before the London open. That hour often sets the tone, so a 08:00 start can be more useful than 09:00.
- The afternoon. The 16:00 UK fix is 17:00 locally, which is when many people are already thinking about the evening. Decide in advance whether you trade it.
- Day boundaries. Daily candles on a GMT+2 server close at midnight server time, 23:00 CET. "Yesterday's high" depends on which close your platform uses.

Any traders from the region want to share how they structure the day?
