Your live trading rules were built for your account. Prop firms add their own rules. Merging them requires a careful check.
Checklist:
1. Daily loss limit: is the firm's limit tighter than yours? Set your personal limit below the firm's.
2. Max drawdown: static or trailing? Calculate the buffer.
3. Lot size limits: per trade, per symbol, total.
4. News restrictions: which events, what window?
5. Minimum hold time: does it affect your exits?
6. Weekend holding: allowed or not?
7. Consistency rules: max share of profit from one day?
8. Trading days minimum.
9. Instrument restrictions: are all your pairs available?
10. Platform differences: same as your live platform?
For each item, note whether your current rules comply. Adjust where needed.
The result is a merged rulebook: the stricter of your rules and the firm's rules for each point.
What rule surprised you when moving to a prop account?
