Some traders run setups that only apply on specific days. Thursdays often have US jobless claims at 13:30 UK, and on ECB weeks the decision comes on Thursday too.
The idea of a day-specific setup:
- Thursday 13:30 UK: US weekly jobless claims.
- These are usually a lower-impact release, but occasionally surprise.
- When combined with other data (e.g. GDP or durable goods on the same day), the reaction can be bigger.
A simple approach:
1. Note the 13:25–13:30 range on EURUSD.
2. After the release, wait for the first minute to close.
3. If price moved more than 8 pips and the second minute doesn't retrace more than half, enter in the direction of the move.
4. Stop beyond the first-minute extreme, target 1:1.
On ECB Thursdays the setup is different: the rate decision at 13:15 UK and press conference at 13:45 UK create two separate reaction windows. Many traders skip the decision and trade only after the press conference starts.
Day-specific setups need a decent sample. One per week means about 50 a year. It takes time to know if it works.
Do you have any setups that only apply on certain days?
