FX opens Sunday evening (around 22:00 UK). Some traders like to watch the open, others don't touch charts until Monday morning. Both approaches have merit.
Case for Sunday preparation:
- Weekend news gets priced in at the open. Seeing the gap gives context for Monday.
- Levels can be marked calmly without the pressure of an approaching session.
- An hour on Sunday evening means a lighter Monday morning routine.
Case for staying offline:
- The Sunday open is thin and often misleading. Gaps can fill or extend in ways that tell little about Monday's London session.
- Rest matters. Treating Sunday as a trading day erodes the weekend.
- The temptation to trade the open is strong, and those trades tend to be poor.
A middle option: spend 30 minutes on Sunday afternoon reviewing the previous week and marking weekly levels, without looking at live prices. Then check the open on Monday morning at 06:30 with fresh eyes.
What does your weekend routine look like? Has changing it ever affected your Monday results?
