"No trading around high-impact news" sounds clear until you look at how it is enforced. The common variants:
Which version of the news rule does your firm use, and has a SL/TP inside the window ever caused trouble?
- Open/close window: no trades opened or closed from X minutes before to X minutes after the release (2 to 5 minutes is typical). Trades opened earlier may stay open.
- Profit exclusion: trading is allowed, but profit from trades inside the window is removed from payout.
- Full ban on certain events: NFP, CPI, FOMC, sometimes central bank speeches.
- Only on funded stage: free during evaluation, restricted once funded.
- A stop loss or take profit that triggers inside the window can count as "closing" a trade.
- Which calendar the firm uses. Impact ratings differ between providers.
- Instrument scope: a US CPI release may restrict all USD pairs, indices and gold, not only EURUSD.
