Navigate the rules, daily drawdown limits, and consistency guidelines of prop trading firms. Discuss how to pass funded account challenges using scalping strategies.
When a payout request is rejected, the reason almost always falls into one of five groups. Knowing them in advance turns most of them into an admin task rather than a surprise.
Consistency rule: one day made up too large a share of the cycle's profit.
Restricted news windows: a trade opened or closed inside the blackout, sometimes through a stop or target that triggered there.
Prohibited practices: very short holds, cross-account hedging, or identical trades with another person's account.
KYC mismatch: the name on the account differs from the ID, or the proof of address is older than allowed.
Cycle requirements: minimum trading days or minimum profit for the payout not yet reached.
Practical prevention: finish KYC during the evaluation, keep a journal with timestamps for every trade near news, and read the payout section of the terms as carefully as the trading rules. Most denials come from the payout section, not the drawdown rules.
If a payout of yours was ever held or denied, what reason did the firm give?
The consistency rule is the one that still catches people I talk to. One strong morning can push a day over 40 percent of the cycle profit, and the payout desk then holds the request even when drawdown rules were clean.
Restricted news windows are quieter but nastier. I once had a stop fill three minutes into a blackout I had marked, and the denial letter cited that fill rather than the entry, which sat outside the window.
KYC mismatch is the easiest to prevent and the slowest to fix. Name spelling on the ID versus the account registration cost me two weeks of waiting on a different firm last year, and nothing about my trading was at fault.
I now finish KYC on day one of any evaluation and keep a timestamped note for every trade close to a scheduled high impact print. That habit has stopped two arguments before they started.
Has anyone seen a denial that cited cycle minimum trading days after the profit target was already hit? That combination still feels like the least discussed of the five.
