Candle countdown timers and why they stopped me from entering on unfinished candles
one of my common mistakes was entering on a candle that hadn't closed. It looked like a rejection or a break, I clicked, and then the candle changed shape before closing and the signal was gone. A simple tool fixed most of that.
I added a countdown timer on the chart showing the time left in the current candle. Now when I see a pattern forming, I can see how many seconds until it closes. If there's ten seconds left, I wait. If it's thirty, I wait. I don't act until the candle has closed and I can see what it actually is.
It sounds basic, but it forced a pause that I didn't have before. A lot of my early entries were being made on shapes that never became the signal. After I started waiting, my win rate on the setups improved a bit, and I took fewer trades.
The tradeoff is that sometimes the price moves a pip or two before I get in, which makes my entry slightly worse. I think that's a fair price for avoiding the false signals. And on lower timeframes like M1, I only use it for the first signal of the candle, since there's so little time.

Re: Candle countdown timers and why they stopped me from entering on unfinished candles
Same here, and the countdown also helped me with the opposite mistake. Sometimes I would wait for the close, then sit there deciding for another whole candle. With the timer I prepare during the last minute: if the candle closes like this, I enter, if not, I skip. Then when it closes I just act. That way the delay after the close is a few seconds, not a few minutes. The pause before the close is good, the pause after it is just hesitation.

For anyone on MT4 or MT5, there are plenty of free candle timer indicators, and TradingView shows a countdown on the price scale by default if you enable it. One thing to check is that it uses server time, not your computer clock, otherwise it can be off by a few seconds. I also turned on a sound alert for the candle close on the timeframe I trade, which means I can look away and come back exactly when the candle finishes.
