What would make you quit EURUSD for a month?

Post by LondonScalper »

I have thought about this one, and for me it would not be a drawdown. It would be a process collapse.

A normal losing month on EURUSD is part of trading. My playbook has had losing months before and recovered. Quitting the pair after one would just be a tantrum dressed up as risk management.

What would make me stop: three or more soft-stop breaches in a two-week period, or catching myself trading outside my written window more than twice in a week. Those are signs that the problem is me, not the pair, and that I have lost the discipline the playbook depends on.

The break would not be about finding a better pair. I would spend the month on demo with the same playbook, journalling every trade as if it were live, until the rule breaks stop. Then back to live at half size for two weeks.

I did a shorter version of this once, for ten days after a messy spring. It felt ridiculous at the time, but the first live week afterwards was the cleanest I had had in months.

Has anyone here actually taken a month off a pair? What made you do it, and did it help?

I took three weeks off cable rather than the euro, and the trigger was close to yours. I noticed I was moving my soft stop on almost every losing trade, five times in eight sessions, and my journal notes had turned into excuses.

The demo month idea is where I would push back a little. On demo I traded beautifully because nothing was at stake, so it proved very little about the habit I was trying to break.

What worked better was live at a quarter of normal size, with a rule that any soft stop breach ended the day. The money was small enough not to matter, but each loss still stung enough to feel real.

After three weeks I went to half size, and the breach count stayed at zero for the next 40 trades. That was the signal I used to return to full size, not the calendar.

Your threshold of three breaches in two weeks seems strict in a good way. Do you count a stop moved closer to entry as a breach too, or only stops moved further away?
