Coming back after a break, whether a holiday, illness or just a few weeks away, is when my news discipline is weakest. Here is the process I use to restart.
Week one back: no trading within 15 minutes of any high-impact release, at any size. I watch releases instead and write down what spreads and price did. This resets my sense of how violent the moves are, which I always underestimate after time away.
Calendar refresh: I rebuild my calendar from scratch rather than relying on my old list. Release times change, new events appear, and daylight saving might have moved everything by an hour since I last checked.
Check what happened while I was away: a quick read of what central banks said and any big surprises in recent data. This tells me which releases the market currently cares about most. Sometimes a figure that was minor before my break is suddenly the main event.
Week two: post-news trades allowed at half size, one attempt per release, only from setups written beforehand.
Week three: back to normal, if weeks one and two had no rule breaks.
The main risk after a break is feeling rusty and wanting to make up for lost time quickly. News releases are the worst place to do that.

Re: News process: when returning from a break
Week one watching and week two at half size match how I restart after a break. The gap I add is a concrete measurement most restart lists skip: re measure typical M1 range on the first three London opens before any news trade goes live.
I write the median and the 90th percentile of those three opens on the pad. If the new median sits well above what I remembered from before the break, my old stop distances are already wrong, and news is the worst place to discover that.
I disagree lightly that week three auto normal is enough when week two had near misses. A near miss that only failed on spread or timing still counts as a rule under pressure for me, so I keep half size another week.
Calendar rebuild from scratch is non negotiable after daylight saving. I once kept an old US print time and watched the spike from a flat screen I thought was safe.
The make up for lost time urge is exactly why news stays last on the restart list. How many London opens do you want logged before your first post news ticket?

Re: News process: when returning from a break
LondonScalper, first post news ticket after a break now needs a written green light with three boxes ticked, not just half size and good intentions. Box one is the three open M1 range sheet you already heard about. Box two is two clean non news tickets that week at the restart size.
Box three is a calendar rebuilt that morning, not reused from the break. Daylight saving is only the loud version of a quieter failure mode where I kept an old bank holiday and traded into a print I had marked safe.
I disagree that a green half size week auto unlocks full size on Monday. If any of those half size tickets scratched on timing or spread, I keep the restart size another five sessions. Near misses are data.
The make up urge still tries to skip box two. That is why the boxes live on a laminated card next to the keyboard, not in a note I can reinterpret.
News stays last on the restart list even when the tape looks friendly. Rust shows up first on impulse minutes.
