Funding From Countries With Currency Controls: Counting the Hidden Costs
Traders in countries where foreign currency is tightly controlled or expensive face an extra layer of cost that rarely appears in trading guides.
Deposits require converting local currency to dollars or another account currency. If the official rate is not the rate at which you can actually obtain foreign currency, your effective cost can be much larger than the nominal deposit fee. Peer-to-peer markets, payment processors, and informal exchanges quote their own rates, which may differ from official figures by a wide margin.
Withdrawals reverse the process, with another spread. A trader who deposits at one rate and withdraws at a very different one can lose or gain substantially through exchange movements alone, independent of trading results.
Local currency volatility adds risk. If your local currency falls against the dollar while you trade, your dollar profits are worth more locally, but if it rises, they are worth less. Account results should be tracked in the currency that matters to you as well as in the account currency.
Practical safeguards include comparing several funding channels, avoiding unverified intermediaries, keeping records of every conversion, and using established payment providers with transparent fees. Scams targeting traders in such markets are common, often offering favorable rates to lure deposits.
Check local regulations on foreign exchange activity and reporting, and take professional advice if unsure.
Practical step: calculate the all-in cost of a full deposit and withdrawal cycle in your own currency using actual quoted rates.

Track results in your local currency too. Your statement can show a profit in dollars while, after the deposit and withdrawal rates, you're actually behind in the money you spend day to day.

Be very careful with P2P agents offering a rate that's much better than everyone else. That's the classic lure. Use established channels even if the rate is a bit worse.
