Mistakes I made with public trading journals

Post by LondonScalper »

Public journals — what I got wrong

Years ago I posted a public trading journal “for accountability.” It did the opposite. I started writing for an audience: polishing language, under-reporting dumb clicks, and stretching reviews so they looked professional. The journal became marketing, not feedback.

Three mistakes that cost me clarity:
  • Delayed honesty — waiting until evening to write when the emotion had already faded
  • Metric theatre — win rate screenshots without cost and R distribution
  • Comment chasing — editing posts after replies instead of logging the next session cleanly
What works for me now is a private raw log plus a sanitised monthly summary if I share anything. Accountability buddy in DM beats a public thread when the goal is behaviour, not applause. The audience never saw the trades I was ashamed of — and those were the ones that needed daylight.

If you keep a public journal: what rules stop you gaming it? And if you abandoned public logging, what replaced it without losing the discipline?
