Break of structure retest on M5: my minimum displacement rule

BOS retests are popular. Without displacement, they are just zigzags with better branding.

On M5 I require minimum displacement before a BOS counts: a break that closes beyond structure with intent, not a one-pip courtesy breach that looks important if you want it to. Retest entry waits for price to return and hold. If the retest slices through, there was no BOS worth trading — there was noise.

M1 can fine-tune the click, but the BOS validity lives on M5 for me. That keeps me from overfitting micro-structure that only exists when you zoom until everything looks like a signal. I also refuse BOS ideas into the minute of a relevant release; structure after the spike is a different conversation.

Displacement is judged relatively — what is enough on EURUSD differs from gold — but the principle stays.

Frankfurt filter: displacement plus session context. Midday chop BOS labels get ignored. Costs still gate whether the retest is worth the ticket.

I would rather miss a soft BOS than own a zigzag that only looked structural in hindsight.

I also ban BOS labels in the first minutes after a major release. Everything breaks structure in a spike; that is not a trade plan.

Retest entries that require perfect touches are too fragile live; I allow a small band but not a full structure give-back.

Minimum displacement keeps me from turning every M5 zigzag into a branded setup.
