DXY correlation habit: confirming EUR and gold direction quickly

DXY correlation habit: confirming EUR and gold direction quickly.

Before London I glance dollar index futures (or a proxy) the same way I glance the calendar. Not for precision -- for "is the dollar already pushing hard while I plan a EUR long into resistance?" Conflicts get size cuts or a stand-aside, not a debate lasting twenty minutes.

Rules
1. Correlation is a filter, not an entry.
2. If DXY and my pair disagree with my idea, I need a stronger level thesis or I pass.
3. Gold often cares about real rates / risk tone too -- dollar alone is incomplete.
4. During data, correlations break; blackout still wins.

Sixty seconds of context beats inventing a euro story in isolation. Overuse turns into paralysis -- one glance, then back to the pair's own levels.

What cross-asset check is on your pre-session card, if any?

If DXY is closed or delayed on my feed, I use a simple EURUSD/USDJPY cross-check as a poor man's dollar read -- imperfect, better than nothing. Tools can fail; the habit of asking "what is the dollar doing?" should not.
