XAGUSD — silver getting hit twice: rates + industrial, $63 handle into CPI

Post by LondonScalper »

Silver is the noisier twin today. Same CPI, worse behaviour.

Setup into/after the number
Spot has been working the $63–64 area. Thursday broke the $63.31 swing; some desks called the short-term trend down from there. Buyers showed up around the 50-day / $63 handle, then CPI (core +0.3% MoM) put the rate headwind back on.

Gold is mostly a rates story. Silver is rates plus industrial demand. Oil >$100 and a 10-year near 5% tax both channels. Gold/silver ratio broke its multi-week downtrend this week — that usually means silver is the one doing the extra work on the downside.

Desk rules I actually use
1. Size silver smaller than gold on event days. Same idea, 1.5–2× the whip.
2. Don’t fade the first CPI spike in XAG just because RSI looks “oversold.” Oversold on a metals event is often the start of the real move.
3. If gold holds $4,300 and silver loses $62.50 with follow-through, that’s information — not a hero long.
4. Physical-deficit chatter is 2026 colour. It is not a 5-minute entry.

I still prefer gold if I need a metals expression of the Fed path. Silver is for when I have a specific level and a time stop, not for “it’s cheap vs gold.”

Sources: BLS CPI; session ranges from FX/commodity wires 11 Sep 2026. Not advice.

What did your feed actually print on the spike — clean $63s or a $2 vacuum?
