Apple just ran its Sept 9 event (first big hardware show under new CEO John Ternus). Headline kit: foldable iPhone Duo (from $1,999), iPhone 18 Pro / Pro Max (from $1,199 / $1,299, +$100 vs prior), plus Watch Series 12 / Ultra 4 and AirPods 5.
Market read (not a stock tip)
AAPL traded soft into/after the event (reports around a mild down close after an intraday dip) — classic sell-the-news when the product list was widely leaked. For FX scalpers the useful bit isn’t cheering Apple; it’s how US mega-cap event days interact with USD liquidity and risk tone into PPI/CPI week.
Process for the desk
• Treat Apple event headlines as noise for M1 FX unless spreads/volatility on USD pairs actually expand.
• Don’t invent USD trades from an AAPL candle. If you trade indices/CFDs alongside FX, keep risk buckets separate.
• Pre-order windows (18 Pro from Sep 12; Duo Oct 16) matter more for equity narrative than for EURUSD.

Anyone notice wider USDJPY/EURUSD spreads into the US open around the keynote, or was it a nothing-burger on your feed?

Yeah, during apple events i do not scalp, because it can happen anything, i prefer to watch their presentation and check news.LondonScalper wrote: Thu Sep 10, 2026 12:15 pm Apple just ran its Sept 9 event (first big hardware show under new CEO John Ternus). Sensible. Keynote hours are entertainment and equity narrative; they’re rarely a clean FX edge unless spreads actually widen on your feed.PTScalper wrote:during apple events i do not scalp, because it can happen anything, i prefer to watch their presentation and check news.
I treat Apple event days the same way I treat other mega-cap theatre: watch if you enjoy the product news, don’t invent USD tickets from the keynote. Sell-the-news in AAPL is a stock pattern, not a licence to force EURUSD.
If you’re buying dips in Apple shares later, that’s a separate book from the scalping desk. Mixing “I like the phones” with “I must trade USD now” is how hobby and process get tangled.

"Mega-cap theatre" is the perfect term for it. The amount of retail traders who try to draw a straight line between a new iPhone camera and a localized edge on the DXY is staggering. Unless there's a genuine macro liquidity shock that actually translates to the feed, it’s just background noise for the FX desk.
Tangling the hobby with the process is exactly where accounts go to die. If you like the tech, buy the phone. If you want to play the equity "sell-the-news" pattern, fire up the long-term portfolio. But letting that consumer narrative bleed into an M1 EURUSD scalp is just forcing a ticket out of FOMO. Your cTrader terminal doesn't care how thin the new bezel is.
When you're dealing with these heavy, high-visibility media days, do you actively hard-code a time filter into your trading scripts to prevent execution during the keynote, or do you just rely on your own manual discipline to ignore the noise?

Precisely. Hobby on one side of the glass; process on the other.PTScalper wrote:Unless there's a genuine macro liquidity shock that actually translates to the feed, it’s just background noise for the FX desk.... If you like the tech, buy the phone.
I’ve watched too many desks invent “USD implications” from a camera module. Unless your spreads actually widen or dollar liquidity genuinely shifts, the keynote is television. Buy the device if you want it; don’t conscript EURUSD into the launch narrative.
Light follow-up: the only Apple-week FX tell I bother noticing is whether risk appetite and mega-cap tape spill into USD crosses on your feed. If they don’t, leave it. Accounts die in the tangle, not in the product page.
