Desk note for scalpers — Tue 8 Sep 2026.
Tape / USD
- Post–Labor Day liquidity is back. Focus is the next 48–72h: ECB Thu, US PPI Thu, US CPI Fri — then FOMC next week still in play after Friday’s NFP beat.
- Dollar broadly subdued vs yen strength; DXY around the high-98s in recent prints. Do not overfit one Asia session into a week bias.
What still frames the week
- Friday NFP: +162k vs ~56k expected; unemployment 4.1%. Fed Sep hike odds still roughly ~57–60% on FedWatch-style pricing — CPI Fri can flip that hard either way.
- Consensus lean into Fri CPI (Reuters-style): ~0.4% m/m headline, core ~0.2% m/m. Hot core (≥0.3%) = hike odds jump; soft core (≤0.1%) = hike odds fade fast.
FX snapshots (levels move — use as context, not entries)
- USDJPY: yen extended toward ~153.5 area (seven-month highs / strongest since Feb in morning trade reports) — wide M1 swings, respect spreads and news filters.
- EURUSD: consolidating mid-range (~1.156–1.167 talk); holds near ~1.163 early. Thu ECB + Fri CPI are the break catalysts.
- Gold (XAUUSD): around ~$4400 zone — caught between softer USD pockets and higher-yield / hike-odds pressure. Hot CPI = tactical downside risk; soft CPI reopens topside.
Energy / geopolitics
- Oil still elevated on Middle East / Iran-related risk (near multi-week highs in recent coverage). Treat energy headlines as volatility fuel for gold and USD risk appetite — not automatic “buy gold” signals.
Week ahead — my blackout list
1. Thu — ECB: 25 bp to 2.50% deposit rate widely priced. Trade the press conference / further-hike language, not the 25 bp itself.
2. Thu — US PPI (warmup into CPI).
3. Fri — US CPI (main USD/gold/indices event into the weekend).
4. Next week — FOMC 15–16 Sep still on the board if CPI keeps hike odds alive.
Process for today
- Pre-mark Thu/Fri blackout windows now (same news-filter playbook: stand aside into the release; resume only after spread normalizes).
- Prefer A+ levels that already mattered on M15/H1; no chasing first impulse on geopolitics or oil spikes.
- If you scalp USDJPY on the yen rally, size for gap risk and widens — this move is policy-narrative heavy.

Cool, thank you for such News
I see, that yen is little bit stronger, but on another hand i think it is partly by big interventions from BOJ.
Swaps on long side are still cool
Zones of support i see in range:
147-153 and 137 -142.
In that zones im ready to wait for quick buying positions.

Week brief: pick the events that own your risk
Desk notes that map ECB, PPI, CPI, then FOMC are useful when they end in a personal risk calendar. From Frankfurt I highlight which prints own my blackout and size budget, and which are observation-only. Post–Labor Day liquidity returning does not mean every headline is a scalp.
Rule: dollar narrative from one Asia session does not rewrite the week plan. I trade European structure with event windows already hatched on the sheet. If the brief is dense, I reduce pair count — usually EURUSD primary, metals secondary, junk ideas cut.
I print or pin a one-page week card on the desk: blackout blocks in red, A-session hours in normal ink. Dense briefs become usable only after that compression.
If the brief conflicts with my sleep or capacity, I cut the week’s ambition rather than run tired into stacked central-bank days.
How do you turn a busy week brief into a one-page personal calendar — by pair, or by session hour?

Small thing that helps when reading those moves: in Japan the decision to intervene is made by the Ministry of Finance, and the BoJ only carries out the orders as its agent. So the headlines that matter are from the finance minister and the vice minister for international affairs, not only from BoJ officials. The other useful part is that the MoF publishes the amounts afterwards, a monthly total at the end of each month and a daily breakdown every quarter. That means you can check whether a sharp yen day was actual intervention or just rumour and positioning, and quite a few big yen rallies turn out to have had none behind them. On the swaps point, a long USDJPY carry trade and intervention risk are really the same position, so the size needs to survive the bad day, not the average one.

Note for readers on the intervention point: when BoJ/MoF intervention is suspected, the official confirmation usually comes from Ministry of Finance data released at the end of the month, so it's worth checking those figures before assuming a move was intervention.
On buying in the 147-153 and 137-142 zones: positive swap on long USDJPY helps a carry position, but it can be wiped out by a single intervention day. A fixed stop below the zone and a size that survives a 3-4 big-figure move keep the idea alive long enough for the swap to matter.
