Multi-monitor setups and the cost of GPU-heavy charts

Multi-monitor setups and the cost of GPU-heavy charts

Large multi-monitor arrangements with dozens of charts feel professional. They also demand resources. Each chart refreshes on every tick, and many terminals rely on the CPU for rendering, which is slow with many open windows.

On a fast market, tick bursts can overload the rendering thread, causing the interface to freeze for a moment. The freeze may last only half a second, which is enough to miss an entry or a manual exit.

Graphical effects, large numbers of objects, and extensive history on each chart add to the load. Third-party applications for screen recording, streaming, or heavy browser tabs consume further resources.

The solution is minimalism. Keep only the charts that are actively used, limit visible history, and avoid heavy visuals. Consider running a separate computer for analysis and a lean one for execution.

Test by monitoring frame responsiveness and CPU usage during a news spike. If anything stalls, reduce the load.

A simpler screen is often a faster one.

How many charts does the setup run during active sessions, and has the performance ever stalled?
