The 6am to 7am GMT drift before London arrives

An hour or so before London opens, an odd thing happens. Price often starts moving in the direction it will follow, or fake, once the real session begins. Early European desks and some Asian players adjust ahead of the crowd.

The move is rarely large, and the spread is still a little wide, but the pattern shows up often enough on EURUSD and GBPUSD to be worth a look. A drift that begins before the open and continues steadily frequently survives the open. A drift that is sharp and sudden tends to get faded.

It is a delicate area. Volume is limited, so signals are noisy, and any strategy built on it must account for wider spreads and a higher chance of a false start.

A trader can test it quickly: mark the direction from 6am to 7am GMT each day for three months, and note how often the 7am to 9am move agrees with it.

One caveat: on days with a major Asian data release or a central bank event earlier in the night, the pre-London drift reflects that news rather than any positioning, and the pattern is much less informative.

Is there any consistent signal in the pre-London hour, or is it just noise?
