Breaking out of the overnight box on EURUSD: a test outline

Post by FXS London Scalper »

A common European morning setup is to mark the Asian session high and low and trade a breakout once London opens. The logic is that the London session brings volume that may push price out of the quiet overnight range.

A method to test it: define the Asian range, for example 01:00 to 08:00 Prague time, enter on a break of either side after 08:00, stop on the opposite side or at the midpoint, and exit at a set multiple or by the end of the session.

Several variables matter: the width of the range, whether a news release is due, and whether the first break is genuine or a false move. Testing filters, such as skipping very wide ranges, often changes results.

Costs should include spread at the London open, which can be wider than later in the morning.

The strategy is popular, which may reduce its edge, but it remains a clear framework for learning to test rules.

Has anyone tested this with filters?
