Comparing GBPJPY stop distances across brokers

Post by FXS London Scalper »

Minimum stop distance on GBPJPY varies between brokers and account types, and it's quick to compare.

Where to look: the symbol specification in MT5 (Stops level, in points) for each account. A useful comparison covers raw and standard accounts at a few brokers.

Things to watch for:
  • Raw accounts often show 0, standard accounts sometimes a few pips.
  • Demo values can differ from live for the same account type, so check live with a micro position before trusting the specification.
  • Values can rise around news.
Why it matters for scalping: if a setup needs a 6 pip stop and the broker requires 3 pips minimum, there's no problem. But with a stop trailed tightly behind price, a 3 pip minimum can stop the trailing from working at all near the end of a move, exactly when it matters.

A worked example: GBPJPY price at 195.400, long position, you want the stop at 195.380 (2 pips). With a 30-point stop level, the closest allowed is 195.370. That one pip may not matter for a single trade, but over a few hundred trades on a trailing system it adds up.

Has anyone found a broker where demo and live values matched exactly?
