Time feels different at one-second resolution

Post by Shadow Trader »

Ten minutes on a fast chart can feel like an hour. Or it can vanish. Scalping alters time perception, and that affects judgment.

When events come quickly, the mind tends to overestimate how long things have taken. A trade open for forty seconds feels like it has been dragging. The urge to close grows. In a calm setup, a minute of nothing can feel like an eternity, and the temptation to do something becomes strong.

On the other hand, in a state of deep focus, time collapses. A trader can sit for ninety minutes unaware that the session has moved from active to dead. The strategy's time filter has passed, but the trade continues out of inertia.

A visible clock on the screen helps. So does a timer for each trade, showing how long it has been open. The strategy's rules should include time-based exits. If a scalp hasn't worked within the usual window, it's over.

Another trick is reviewing the length of winning versus losing trades. Often losers last much longer, because they were held while hoping.

How long does a typical winner last compared with a typical loser in your trade history?
