Sitting out feels like losing, and it is not

A scalper looks at a chart that has gone dead. Spreads are wide. No setups appear. The minutes pass. Somewhere in the back of the mind, a voice says that other traders are making money right now.

Waiting is uncomfortable because inactivity looks like falling behind. Every minute without a trade feels like a minute of lost income.

But the numbers tell a different story in most trade logs. The trades taken in poor conditions, out of impatience, are the ones that drag results down. Skipping them improves the average, even if it reduces the count.

A helpful mental shift is treating the decision not to trade as a trade itself, one with a result: the loss that was avoided. Some traders even log those decisions, noting what they would have done and how it would have turned out.

Patience is not passive. It is an active choice that needs to be practised and respected.

A check that helps is listing the three best days in the log and counting the trades taken on each. The best days often have fewer trades than the average, which says something about where profit really comes from.

How easy is it to skip a session or a setup, and what does the log say about the days with the fewest trades?
