Wi-Fi works until the one moment it does not

Wireless connections are convenient and usually fine. They are also subject to interference from neighbours, microwaves, and other devices, and the problems tend to appear in short bursts.

For ordinary browsing, a half-second hiccup goes unnoticed. For a trader with a position open, it can mean a missed exit or a delayed fill.

A wired connection removes one large variable. It costs almost nothing, usually a cable, and makes latency more consistent.

Other points matter too: the quality of the router, the load from other devices on the network, and the ISP's routing to the broker. Sometimes switching providers or using a mobile hotspot as a backup solves a lot.

It is worth keeping a backup route for connectivity, like a phone ready to tether, because outages seem to happen during exactly the moments that matter most.

A quick check: run a continuous ping over Wi-Fi for ten minutes during the evening, then switch to a cable and repeat. The difference in the tail of the distribution tends to be convincing.

What is the backup plan if the main connection drops with a trade open?
