Reconciling the platform history with the broker statement

Post by Amanhasnoname »

The platform's history and the broker's official statement should match. Sometimes they do not, and the differences matter.

Common causes include swaps and fees appearing on the statement but not in the platform's trade list, commission handled in a separate line, and rounding. Occasionally, a trade appears with a different price or time because of a correction.

For scalpers with hundreds of trades, small differences compound. A systematic gap of 0.1 pips per trade is invisible in one trade and obvious over a month.

Reconciling regularly, once a week or month, catches errors early. Export both records, match the trades by ticket, and compare prices, sizes, and costs.

Discrepancies should be raised with the broker with the specific ticket numbers. Brokers respond better to precise reports than general complaints.

Keeping a personal record, independent of the platform, adds a layer of protection. A simple spreadsheet is enough.

Has a reconciliation ever turned up an error or an unexpected charge?
