Prop firm rules and the scalper's checklist

Post by Amanhasnoname »

Funded trader programs have become a popular way to trade larger size. The rules, though, often clash with scalping.

Common restrictions include minimum holding times, such as thirty seconds or two minutes. Some ban trading around major news, within a window of a few minutes before and after. Others cap daily drawdown tightly, limit lot sizes, or forbid certain strategies they call latency arbitrage.

Reading the full terms matters more than reading the headline. A rule that profit from trades held under a minute does not count can quietly void a scalping approach.

Also worth checking is how the firm's feed and execution compare with a normal broker. Spreads and slippage may differ, and the evaluation account might not behave like the funded one.

Before paying for a challenge, a trader should map the strategy against every rule and check which conflicts exist.
