The micro-lot comfort zone fallacy

Post by Amanhasnoname »

Trading micro lots feels safe, and that comfort leads to bad habits. Nobody cares about a loss of 40 cents, so discipline slips: oversized stops, ignored rules, random entries.

Then the account grows or the size increases, and the same habits meet real consequences. The results change, and the trader blames the strategy.

The problem is that behavior learned at trivial stakes does not transfer. Emotions, decision quality, and risk handling all change when money matters.

A better approach is choosing a size that matters a little but not too much, large enough to feel a loss and small enough to stay calm. That gives realistic data about how the process works under mild pressure.

Scaling up should happen in steps, with a review at each stage. The question at each step is whether the rules still hold.

A track record built on meaningless stakes is not a track record of anything useful.

At what size did the behavior change, and what was learned from the transition?
