Hesitation after a missed fill

Post by Amanhasnoname »

An order gets rejected, price runs, and the next valid setup arrives a minute later. The hand freezes. The signal is clean, but the memory of the missed move holds it back.

This hesitation is as costly as chasing. A strategy only works if the signals are taken consistently, and skipping every second one changes the statistics.

The cause is usually a mix of regret and caution. The brain wants to avoid repeating the bad experience, even though each trade is independent.

A useful habit is keeping a simple log of skipped signals along with what would have happened. Over time, it shows how much edge is lost by hesitating, and the number tends to be convincing.

Another is reducing the size temporarily. A smaller position makes the next entry easier, and the process continues.

The goal is not to feel no hesitation, but to act despite it when the setup meets the rules.

How is hesitation handled after a bad fill, and does it show up in the numbers?
