When the ISP changes the route and nobody tells you

Post by Amanhasnoname »

Internet providers adjust routing all the time. Traffic that used to take a short path to the broker's server may be redirected through a longer one for reasons nobody explains. The ping goes from 25 to 60 milliseconds, and execution quality drops without any visible warning.

Scalpers tend to notice indirectly. Fills feel worse, orders take longer, and the platform occasionally freezes. The temptation is to blame the broker.

A regular check helps. Run a traceroute to the broker's server once a week and save the output. Compare the number of hops and the latency at each step. A sudden change points to a routing issue.

If it appears, contact the ISP with the traceroute attached, and ask for a route change. Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not, and switching providers becomes the option.

A VPS close to the broker sidesteps the problem entirely, since the home connection only needs to reach the VPS for monitoring.

Has a routing change ever hurt execution, and how was it tracked down?
