At 4pm London time, a benchmark rate gets set that many funds and corporates use to value and rebalance currency holdings. In the minutes before, large orders hit the market to match that rate, and the price can behave strangely.
The usual description is sharp movement in the window from about 3:55 to 4:05, sometimes followed by a reversal once the fix is done. Not every day, but often enough to notice.
For scalpers the lesson is mixed. The volatility looks tempting, but it does not mean the direction is predictable. Orders in both directions hit at once, and spreads widen as liquidity providers protect themselves.
A reasonable approach is treating the window as a hazard first and an opportunity second. Review the charts for the past thirty days at that time and mark what happened. If the reversals dominate, a fade setup might exist. If it is random, stay out.
