Higher timeframe levels as a filter for one-minute entries

Post by Amanhasnoname »

Scalpers staring at one-minute charts sometimes forget that larger structures are in play. Levels from the hourly or daily chart are visible to many participants, and price reacts to them.

Using them as a filter can improve a short-term strategy. For example, avoid long entries directly under a strong daily resistance, or require that a breakout on the one-minute chart is not running into a major level within a few pips.

The idea is to check the available room. A short-term setup with a 5 pip target and a strong barrier 3 pips away has a poor risk profile.

Implementation is simple. Mark the previous day's high and low, the weekly open, and a few round numbers on the chart. Before entry, check the distance to the nearest level in the trade's direction.

Some traders build this check into an indicator that displays the distance in pips.

Testing the filter on historical entries shows whether it improves the average result and by how much.
