Chart history loading and the lag from huge bar counts

Post by Amanhasnoname »

Setting the maximum bars in a chart to a very large number feels harmless. Years of history are available if needed. The cost shows up in memory use and speed.

Each chart holds its bars in memory, and every indicator processes them. Ten charts with a million bars each add up to a heavy load. Startup is slow, and some indicators recalculate everything at certain events.

Scalpers rarely need that much data on screen. A few thousand bars on a one-minute chart cover a couple of days, which is plenty for the usual levels and context.

Keeping history modest also makes restarts faster, which matters when the platform has to come back quickly after a crash or an update.

For research and testing, separate instances or dedicated tools make more sense than leaving everything on the live terminal.

Simple housekeeping like this removes friction that traders sometimes blame on the broker.

What is your maximum bars setting, and have you ever reduced it?
