Plenty of scalpers trust the platform history and never compare it to anything else. That works until one day a balance doesn't look right and there's no independent record to check.
Keeping a separate log, even a simple spreadsheet filled from the platform export, makes errors visible. A swap charge that looks too big, a commission billed on a trade that was never opened, a fill that doesn't match the deal history. Brokers get things wrong occasionally, and mistakes tend to favour the house more often than chance would suggest.
Good practice is a weekly check. Compare total commission, total swap and net result against the statement. Differences of a few cents can be rounding. Anything larger deserves a support ticket with screenshots attached.
It also helps with disputes. A timestamped record of orders sent and prices received is far more persuasive than a memory of what the screen looked like.
How often do you audit the broker's numbers, and has anything ever come up?
