Identical timestamp, mismatched quotes across brokers: the reasons

Post by Shadow Trader »

Two accounts open side by side, same pair, same second, and the bid is off by a fraction of a pip. That is not a glitch. It is what happens when each broker builds its price from a different set of liquidity providers.

A retail feed is rarely one bank's quote. Usually it is an aggregation of several providers, and the broker decides how to blend them: best bid and best offer across all sources, a single provider's stream, or a filtered mix that drops anything that looks stale. Each choice produces a slightly different price, and the differences get louder when the market is moving fast.

The part that matters for scalping is depth and refresh speed, not the headline spread. A feed with fewer providers can look tight when quiet and then widen sharply on news because there is nobody else to fill the gap. A feed with many providers tends to hold a steadier shape, though the broker may add its own smoothing on top.

Another thing that rarely gets mentioned: providers differ in how they treat flow. Some quote tighter to flow they like and wider to flow they do not, and the broker's routing rules decide which stream an account ends up seeing.

So a strategy that works on one feed and bleeds on another is not always a strategy problem. Sometimes the fills simply sit in a different place relative to the move.

Has anyone run the same entry logic on two live accounts at once and compared where the fills landed?
