The market doesn't switch between sessions cleanly. Sydney fades into Tokyo, Tokyo overlaps with London, London overlaps with New York. Each handover changes who is trading and how.
A strategy built on Asian range behaviour often breaks at the London open, when fresh liquidity arrives and the range gets run through. A momentum scalp that works during the London and New York overlap tends to degrade as London leaves and volume dries up.
The fix is to tag trades by session when logging them. Not by hour, but by which session was dominant. After a hundred trades or so, the results often split dramatically, with the setup working in one window and bleeding in another.
That gives a real filter, based on data rather than preference. It also reveals that some setups were never really edges. They were session artefacts.
One practical tweak is to shut strategies off for ten minutes either side of each handover and compare results with the version that runs through them. The difference is often large enough to justify a permanent schedule, and it costs nothing to test.
Which session has produced your best and worst results, and was that a surprise?
Session handovers are where scalping setups quietly break
