Prop firm terms can be long, and many traders skim them before paying for a challenge. A focused read of a few sections can avoid surprises later.
Sections worth reading carefully: the definition of drawdown and how it is calculated, any restrictions on strategies, rules about holding over weekends or news, the payout schedule and conditions, and the firm's right to deny payouts or close accounts.
A useful method is to write down, in your own words, the five rules most likely to affect your trading style. If any rule is unclear, ask support in writing before paying and keep the answer.
Watch for vague clauses that give the firm discretion, such as bans on 'abusive' or 'non-genuine' trading without clear definitions. These clauses are where most disputes begin.
Comparing the terms of two or three firms side by side often reveals large differences that marketing pages hide.
