Hiding the live P&L while trading

Post by Amanhasnoname »

Watching the floating profit and loss tick by tick turns each fluctuation into an emotional event. A trade that is up 20 dollars becomes down 5, and the mind reacts as if something important happened.

Some traders find that hiding the dollar P&L and showing only price and the planned levels reduces the emotional noise. The decisions become about price and rules, not about money.

Platforms offer ways to do it: removing the profit column, using a chart without the account panel, or tracking in pips only. A sticker over the corner of the screen works too.

An experiment is simple. Trade for a week with the P&L hidden, and compare rule adherence and results with a previous week. Many people find fewer impulsive exits.

The numbers still matter, but they can be reviewed at planned times, after the session or at breaks, when the mind is calmer.

The principle is controlling when and how emotional triggers appear.
