The illusion of control with fast clicking

Post by Amanhasnoname »

Rapid action feels like mastery. Clicking quickly, adjusting orders, and reacting to every tick creates a sense that outcomes are being steered. In reality, much of the short-term movement is beyond influence.

Activity can substitute for edge. A trader who makes many adjustments feels engaged, but the changes often add costs and noise: extra modifications, re-entries, and premature exits.

The test is comparing the results of the active management with a passive baseline using the same entries. If the baseline, with fixed stop and target and no intervention, performs as well or better, the interventions are not adding value.

The comparison can be done on historical trade logs using tick data to simulate the passive version.

Reducing unnecessary activity often improves results and lowers stress. A plan that defines when to act and when to wait channels effort where it matters.

Doing less can be the higher-skill choice.

How does the result of the actual trades compare with a simulation of the same entries using fixed exits?
