Green-day anxiety: the fear of giving back profit

Post by Amanhasnoname »

After a good start, a different pressure appears. The account is up, and the fear of giving it back changes behavior. Trades become hesitant, exits come too early, and good setups are skipped.

Alternatively, the opposite response emerges: a feeling of having house money leads to looser standards and larger size, and the gains evaporate.

Both reactions stem from treating the day's profit as a possession rather than as a stream of independent opportunities. The market has no memory of the morning's result, and the next setup has the same expectancy as before.

Practical measures include having rules that do not depend on the day's P&L: the same criteria, the same size, regardless of whether the day is up or down. A daily profit cap or a trailing daily stop provides structure if desired.

Reviewing performance split by the state of the day, up, flat, or down, shows whether behavior changes. Differences expose where discipline slips.

Does the quality of trades differ when the day is already in profit?
