Browser-based platforms: convenience at the price of latency

Post by Amanhasnoname »

Web trading platforms are accessible from anywhere with no installation. For casual use they are fine. For scalping, they add layers that desktop software avoids.

A browser adds rendering overhead, JavaScript execution, and dependence on the tab's priority. Background tabs may be throttled by the browser, delaying updates. Memory use grows over long sessions.

The connection typically goes through websockets, which are efficient, but additional proxy layers on the broker's side can add delay.

Browser extensions and other tabs compete for resources. A heavy page in another tab can slow the trading interface noticeably.

If a web platform is the only option, use a dedicated browser profile with no extensions, keep the trading tab in its own window, and avoid minimizing it. Measure order latency and compare with a desktop platform if available.

Charting features may also differ, with fewer indicators and less flexible hotkeys.

A platform designed for speed typically runs natively. Convenience should be weighed against actual execution quality.

How does order latency on the web platform compare with the desktop version at the same broker?
