Does a 15-minute level matter to a ten-second trade?

Post by Amanhasnoname »

Scalpers often mark levels from higher timeframes: the 15-minute high, the hourly pivot, the daily open. The assumption is that these levels influence price at the scale of the trade. Sometimes they do, sometimes not.

A level matters when enough participants act on it. Daily highs and lows, round numbers, and session extremes attract orders. A swing point on a 15-minute chart may have little significance beyond the traders watching that specific chart.

The relevance also depends on the relative scale. A ten-second trade aiming for two pips is influenced by immediate liquidity and order flow, not by a level ten pips away.

Test with data. Mark candidate levels, measure how often price reacts within a small distance, and compare with random levels. If the reaction frequency is no better than chance, the level is decoration.

Focus on levels that demonstrate statistical significance. A short list of levels with measurable effect is more useful than a chart full of lines.

Which levels show a measurable reaction on the pair, and which are only visual clutter?
