Scaling out with multiple tickets multiplies commission

Post by Amanhasnoname »

Splitting a position into three tickets to take profit in stages feels disciplined. On accounts with per-ticket commissions or minimum charges, it is also expensive.

A flat commission per lot may scale fine, but some brokers charge a minimum per order or round up for each ticket. Three tickets of 0.1 lot can cost far more than one ticket of 0.3 lots.

Spread cost is unchanged since all tickets enter at the same price, but exits happen at different times and different spreads.

The benefit of scaling out is psychological and statistical, smoothing the equity curve and capturing partial moves. The cost needs to be weighed against those benefits.

To decide, calculate the extra commission per round turn for the scaled approach and compare it with the improvement in average profit per lot. If the extra cost is a significant fraction of the gain, the technique may not pay.

MT5 netting accounts avoid some of the complexity by merging tickets, but the partial closing logic still generates multiple deals with possible per-deal fees.

What is the actual commission difference between one ticket and three on the account in use?
