Prior hour high and low as micro support and resistance

Post by Amanhasnoname »

Daily and weekly levels get all the attention, but for a scalper the most useful reference is often much closer: the high and low of the previous hour. Those two lines are cheap to draw, automatic to update, and plenty of other short-term traders watch them too.

How they behave tends to follow a pattern. In quiet conditions price respects them as small ceilings and floors. In active conditions they get broken and become the retest zone for the next move. The skill is telling which regime is running, and one practical way is checking whether the last two hours already printed overlapping ranges. Overlapping suggests rotation, so fade. Stacked, non-overlapping hourly ranges suggest trend, so wait for the break and the retest.

Another detail: the level is not a single price. Wicks make it a zone a pip or two thick, so entries placed exactly on the line get clipped by noise. Put the order slightly inside and the stop slightly outside the zone.

Try it for a week with no other indicators. Mark every touch, and record whether price rejected or broke. That log is worth more than any recycled opinion about support and resistance.

Do you treat the previous hour levels as fade zones or as break-and-retest zones, and what decides it?
