Many scalpers place orders by clicking on the chart or using the order window. Others use a ladder, a vertical display of prices where each row is a price level and a click places an order at that level.
Ladders are common in futures trading and available for forex on some platforms and brokers, including cTrader and third-party tools. They allow quick order placement and show depth if available.
The advantage is speed and precision. There's no need to enter a price or drag a line. The disadvantage is the risk of misclicks. A click on the wrong row can place an order at a bad level. Some ladders also react quickly to price changes, shifting the rows while the cursor is still moving.
Chart-based clicking, with the platform's one-click feature, gives a visual overview of price history, which the ladder lacks. Many people use the chart for analysis and the ladder for execution.
An unnoticed point is that the ladder shows prices from the broker's aggregated feed. The depth on display may be only part of the real liquidity. Orders placed on the ladder behave the same as any other order, with the same fills.
For scalping style, the best interface is the one that minimizes errors and delay. A trial period with a small size shows which one feels more reliable.
Which interface produces fewer mistakes under pressure?
