Protective stops matter most when the connection drops

Post by Amanhasnoname »

Disconnections happen. A trade open with no stop and a dead connection is an open-ended exposure, and the market does not wait for the reconnect.

A server-side stop is the first line of defence. It stays active regardless of what happens to the terminal. Even a wide emergency stop, far beyond the normal exit, caps the damage in a worst-case event.

Alerts on a phone add a second layer. Many platforms and brokers can send notifications for margin calls or large equity swings. A monitoring app on mobile gives a way to close positions quickly if the main setup fails.

Practising the recovery routine helps. Knowing the broker's phone number, having the mobile platform logged in, and understanding how to close everything quickly all reduce panic when something breaks.

Planning for failure before it happens is dull work, but it is the difference between a bad story and a blown account.

What is the plan if the connection dies with a trade open, and has it been tested?
