Pivot levels at the London open and what price tends to do near them

Post by Amanhasnoname »

Daily pivots calculated from the prior session's high, low, and close attract attention. At the London open, many participants look at the same levels, which sometimes produces visible reactions.

The pattern worth testing is the first approach to a pivot after the open. Price often stalls, probes, or reverses at the level during the first hour, since orders cluster there. After that, the reaction fades as the session develops its own structure.

Variations in calculation matter. Broker server time defines the daily boundaries, so the high, low, and close can differ between platforms. Pivots from one broker may sit a few pips away from another's.

Using a consistent source, ideally the one used for trading, avoids the mismatch. Alternatively, defining levels from fixed UTC times gives a stable reference.

Testing reactions at pivots over a few months across several pairs shows whether the effect exists in the data, and on which pairs it is stronger.

Do pivot levels get respected on your pairs, and which calculation method works best?
