Scaling in with micro lots to test execution before full size

Post by Amanhasnoname »

Entering a position in several small pieces can reduce the damage of poor fills. The first piece tests the market, and the rest follow only if conditions are acceptable.

The method has costs. Each piece pays its own spread, and commission applies per lot, so splitting adds expenses. On a tight scalp, the extra cost may eat the benefit.

Where it helps most is on thin pairs or around uncertain conditions. A first clip of a quarter of the size shows the real fill quality and the immediate reaction, with limited risk.

Scaling out works similarly. Taking partial profits reduces the emotional pressure and locks in some gain. It also complicates the management of stops and targets.

The right balance depends on the strategy and on the cost structure. Testing both approaches on a small account for a few hundred trades provides the evidence.

Has splitting entries into pieces improved results, or did the extra costs cancel the benefit?
