Early signs that a platform is about to freeze

Post by Amanhasnoname »

Terminals rarely crash without warning. A few symptoms usually appear first, and spotting them gives time to react.

Quotes updating in bursts instead of smoothly, a clock that jumps, charts that redraw slowly, and a delay between clicking and the order window appearing are all common. Memory usage climbing steadily over several hours often explains it, especially with many charts and indicators running.

Custom indicators with poorly written loops are frequent culprits. One that recalculates the whole history on every tick can eat a CPU core and drag everything down. Removing indicators one at a time while watching the load usually reveals the offender.

Platform logs help too. Repeated errors about history synchronisation or memory allocation point towards a specific component.

A restart schedule, such as closing and reopening the terminal during quiet hours, resets memory leaks and avoids freezes during active sessions. It feels low-tech, but it works well.

What warning signs show up before a freeze, and what usually turns out to be the cause?
