The trouble with watching every tick

Post by Shadow Trader »

A 1 second chart or a tick chart can hold attention for hours. Each flicker feels meaningful.

Most of it is noise. Price moves randomly on tiny timeframes, and the mind sees patterns where none exist. Emotional responses follow each twitch: excitement, fear, irritation.

Studies of attention and stress show that frequent exposure to small fluctuations increases anxiety and promotes impulsive action, even when the underlying position has not changed.

A calmer method places the trade, sets the stop and target, and steps away from the screen until an alert fires. Hard to do, but powerful. The trade rests on the plan, not on every tick.

Tools help. Price alerts, bracket orders and mobile notifications allow monitoring without constant staring.

It feels counterintuitive for fast-paced scalping, yet many experienced scalpers describe their best results when watching less.

What happens to results here when screen-watching is reduced during an open trade?
