Weekend risk for traders who never plan to hold over the weekend

Post by Shadow Trader »

A scalper has no intention of holding positions through Friday. Still, weekend risk matters.

Pending orders left active over the weekend can trigger at the Sunday open, at gapped prices, with wide spreads. A forgotten limit order from Thursday sits waiting for a surprise.

Stops placed on positions that were meant to be closed but remained open will protect against a gap only partially. If price jumps beyond the stop, the fill comes at the next available level.

A closing routine on Friday avoids both problems: cancel all pending orders, close all positions and check the account summary. It takes two minutes.

Another useful step is to review the trade history for any orders that remained open unintentionally. Platform restarts, connection drops and manual mistakes sometimes leave orphaned orders.

A short checklist taped near the screen ensures nothing is forgotten.

Has an orphaned order ever caused a surprise here, and how was the issue handled?
