Volume weighted average price is a staple in equities. In spot forex, no consolidated volume exists, so platforms compute VWAP from tick volume or the broker's own flow.
That makes the indicator less precise but not useless. It still shows where the bulk of activity occurred during the session and acts as a dynamic mean. When price stretches far from the line, mean-reversion scalps toward it become attractive. When price holds above it with rising tick volume, trend-following setups gain credibility.
Institutional traders use VWAP as a benchmark for execution quality, which gives it some real influence on futures. The influence on spot forex is indirect, though currency futures and spot are closely linked.
The key caveat is that VWAP resets daily, and the reset time depends on the platform. A VWAP anchored to the London open behaves differently from one anchored to midnight.
Has anyone used VWAP on forex charts, and which anchor time proved most useful?
Is VWAP meaningful when there is no central tape?
